Organic spice and condiment distributor Établissements Moiret has implemented Mecalux’s Easy WMS in its 10,764 ft² logistics center in La Buissière (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France). “We decided to digitalize our facility to reduce errors, ensure stock traceability, and fulfill more orders in less time,” says Guillaume Lafosse, Director of the French company.
The Easy WMS warehouse management system intervenes in all processes in Établissements Moiret’s facility. Thanks to its photovoltaic panels, the center is energy independent. The business has total control of its merchandise, from the receipt of products from French and German suppliers to the distribution of orders to clients in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The organization also prioritizes environmental protection, implementing a box recycling policy to give used packaging a second life.
Complete product control
“Our day-to-day consists of storing and distributing spices and condiments to food companies such as butcher and fish shops and catering businesses,” says Lafosse.
With the help of Easy WMS, stock control is foolproof. “Our warehouse used to have fixed positions, meaning each SKU was assigned a specific location.” Nevertheless, the organization found it difficult to track batches and best-before dates. “Operators had to remember where each product was slotted,” says Lafosse.
Digitalizing the storage process ensures that organic goods are kept in ideal conditions. “Easy WMS organizes stock following the FEFO method, where the first to expire are the first out. This strategy ensures items will be shipped well before their best-by dates and minimizes the likelihood of them losing their potency in the warehouse.”
The Mecalux software also helps employees locate products and conduct physical inventories. “Before, an operator could take several weeks to do stock counts for the 800 SKUs stored. With Easy WMS, they only need an hour,” says Lafosse.
Inventory control has improved the quality of the service Établissements Moiret provides to its clients. By monitoring the number of products available, the company can organize replenishment in advance. “Our priority is to eliminate any possibility of a stockout and check the status of each batch,” says Lafosse.
The warehouse is divided into three different areas where merchandise is distributed based on its characteristics and demand level. The facility is equipped with an HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) control system that keeps stock within the same temperature range throughout the year. It also has a 17,657 ft³ cold store for SKUs that need to be housed at a controlled temperature. “Easy WMS has provided us with numerous benefits: real-time product traceability, streamlined picking, and better supply management,” says Lafosse.
Evolution of order fulfillment
Easy WMS has optimized order picking for Établissements Moiret. This process is crucial for the business, as it is committed to delivering goods to food companies within one to two days. The organization uses an electric vehicle to ensure zero-emission distribution to clients located near the La Buissière facility.
“Depending on the season, we deliver up to 120 orders daily,” says Lafosse. To perform picking, operators travel around the warehouse, retrieving products from pallet racks or picking shelves. Then, they move them to the consolidation area. Lafosse highlights the speed achieved in picking: “Operators go to the locations to pick the merchandise they need by following the predefined route set by Easy WMS.”
Used with RF scanners, the software not only speeds up order picking but also ensures greater accuracy and traceability. These devices enable double verification in picking operations. That is, workers must scan both the product’s label and its location before retrieving it, reducing the possibility of error.
Seasonal, data-based intralogistics operations
Établissements Moiret’s business is highly seasonal, with demand peaks varying according to the time of year. To address this complexity, the company employs advanced analytics to make more informed decisions and manage high-sales periods effectively.
“Easy WMS continuously collects and extracts data on what happens in our warehouse,” says Lafosse. With this information, the French organization can meticulously monitor its intralogistics processes, anticipate unforeseen situations, and take proactive measures to improve efficiency.
“Mecalux integrated Easy WMS with our Incwo ERP system to facilitate real-time data management,” says Lafosse. This interconnectedness provides a more complete and up-to-date view of the business. Among other key aspects, it allows the sales team to access real-time information about available inventory.
Digitalization has marked a significant milestone in Établissements Moiret’s journey. From comprehensive spice management to efficient order fulfillment, the company has optimized every aspect of its supply chain to offer its clients exceptional service.
