Tecnol streamlines pallet handling with a wide range of SKUs

Tecnol is a company devoted to manufacturing technical materials and products. “Easy WMS’s advantages are clear,” says Iván Robles, Logistics Manager at Tecnol, a company with over 25 years of experience manufacturing technical materials and products for construction, urban equipment, and industrial adhesives. “We’ve increased our order processing speed, improved inventory reliability, and significantly reduced the number of incidents.”

Logistics digitalization has become a key solution for businesses managing a wide and diverse range of SKUs. This is the case of Tecnol, which has implemented Mecalux’s Easy WMS software in its warehouse in Reus (Spain) to strengthen its management and traceability capabilities.

“We store 1,400 SKUs of finished goods. They include insulation and waterproofing materials from Tecnol Technics; street furniture such as solar streetlights, benches, and bins from Tecnol Urban; healthcare supplies like masks, coveralls, and gloves from Tecnol Health; and adhesives from Tecnol Fix,” says Robles.

Tecnol updated its warehouse in partnership with Mecalux “to respond effectively to business growth.” In just 20 years, the company grew from a team of five employees to manufacturing over 600 million masks, along with other products. “The decision was part of our ambitious innovation project currently underway, which includes process modernization with a particular focus on logistics digitalization,” says Robles.

Digital warehouse management was a game changer for Tecnol’s supply chain, as all goods management was previously handled manually. If associates were familiar with the facility, they could try to remember each product’s position. Otherwise, they had no choice but to search through the racks. With the implementation of Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system, all operators know where to find every SKU. “Now, we have the exact location of all our goods, making inventory much easier. Before, it was chaotic. We have around 3,600 pallets and now know precisely where each one is,” says Robles.

Picking a wide variety of products

Tecnol manages up to 100 highly varied orders a day. They can range from a small silicone container to 16-foot streetlight posts or even full pallets carrying six trash bins. Thanks to warehouse digitalization, the team performs picking more rapidly and efficiently.

“When we receive goods, the Easy WMS software tells us where to store each product. Putaway follows the ABC analysis. That is, high-demand SKUs are positioned closer to the picking area, while those with lower turnover are placed farther away. This approach increases our associates’ productivity,” says Robles.

Easy WMS has improved process organization. On a typical day in Tecnol’s warehouse, one operator replenishes goods while others perform picking. Using RF scanners, associates fill several orders on a single run, optimizing time. Next, the supplemental Easy WMS module Multi-Carrier Shipping Software comes into play. It labels orders and automates direct communication between the warehouse and couriers before the goods reach their assigned shipping dock.

At Tecnol’s facility in Reus, Multi-Carrier Shipping Software integrates with the Coral and REDUR delivery companies. “The module has made us more productive and reliable. Previously, we had an associate solely dedicated to generating labels. That sometimes led to errors, such as mixing up labels for different orders. Now, the same operator who performed the picking can label the packages,” says Robles.

Stock of varying sizes

In addition to modernizing its logistics operations with Mecalux software, Tecnol has reorganized its inventory on pallet racks. This storage solution adapts to the sizes of the extremely varied items the company manages across its business lines: Tecnol Technics, Tecnol Urban, Tecnol Health, and Tecnol Fix. “Among all the warehouse software available on the market, we chose Mecalux for its reputation and excellent references,” says Robles. Tecnol is now equipped to continue developing innovative technical products while meeting its clients’ needs quickly and efficiently.
