Continuous Improvement Engineer

Job Description:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for providing safety leadership to Pontiac plant personnel and incorporating continuous improvement principles and techniques in order to ensure that the plant meets production and shipping metrics while also complying with all requirements pertaining to all EPA, IL EPA, and OSHA.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect facility, machinery, and work processes to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure safety compliance.

  • Recommend process and equipment safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards, considering production requirements.  Obtain quotes from vendors, using AutoCAD or other design tools to ensure technical design of features both works well with existing machinery and will meet desired safety objectives.

  • Conduct accident investigations and safety audits, partnering with plant management in defining possible corrective action measures.

  • Report and review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.

  • Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.

  • Conduct new hire safety orientation and all required annual or periodic training, such as forklift certifications, LOTO training, crane operation training and certification, etc.  Recommend to plant management additional training as needed based on empirical evidence.

  • Review employee safety programs to determine adequacy and recommend to plant management changes to safety programs that will reduce risks while maintaining or improving production metrics

  • Provide tools and training to Plant Management to enable Leads and Supervisors on the floor to ensure that their personnel operate in a safe, orderly, and clean environment.

  • Maintain all documentation related to OSHA logs, OSHA 300A, EPA testing results and reports, accident reports, training documentation, and ISO.

  • Drive and lead the plant in obtaining and maintaining ISO 14000 certification

  • Team with Human Resources and Plant Management to recommend disciplinary action based on any behaviors exhibited by plant personnel that increase risk

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • Strong professional interest in safety and environmental engineering in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Solid understanding of safe work practices, OSHA, EPA, and ISO.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and changing environment.

  • Ability and desire to work on-site, in-office at our Pontiac, IL location 100%.  No Hybrid or telework available.

  • Capable of standing/walking 4+ hours per day as 50% of each day will be out on the plant floor
