Cloud computing will transition from being a disruptive technology to becoming a requirement for business competitiveness in the next four years. Gartner experts affirm this prediction, highlighting the use of AI-driven applications in the cloud.
By 2028, as many as 50% of companies will be using cloud-based industrial platforms to enhance their capabilities. Milind Govekar, a Distinguished VP Analyst at consulting firm Gartner, foresees this growth, indicating that the cloud will become decisive for competitiveness.
“While many organizations have started to seize the technical advantages of cloud, only a few have unlocked its full potential in supporting business transformation. As a result, organizations are using the cloud to launch a new wave of disruption driven by artificial intelligence (AI), enabling them to unlock business value at scale,” said Govekar at a Gartner IT Symposium//Xpo.
Digital transformation ally
Over the next few years, companies will likely no longer view cloud services as a novelty or a mere tool. Instead, they will integrate them to facilitate innovation and drive their businesses forward. Cloud computing will, therefore, become an imperative. By 2028, most organizations will be able to anticipate and respond to market changes and fluctuations.
To leverage these new capabilities and incorporate greater automation, Gartner recommends making sound investments in employee training, breaking down departmental barriers, and fostering collaboration among teams. The consulting firm points out several new cloud capabilities that companies are already acquiring, including elasticity, rapid continuous integration/cloud delivery (CI/CD), serverless functions, and AI-driven APIs and processes that were complicated to achieve through other means.
