Sportisimo, the largest sporting goods retailer in the Czech market, continues to rely on Mecalux storage solutions to optimize its logistics operations.
“We‘ve been cooperating with Mecalux since 2008, when we equipped our warehouse in Rudná u Prahy with pallet racks. The total capacity of that facility reached 35,000 pallet spaces, and we had also outfitted it with mezzanine floors and picking shelves,” says Juraj Raffaj, Technical Manager at Sportisimo.
Sportisimo has maintained a positive and enduring relationship with Mecalux over the years. The Czech sporting goods distributor boasts the largest selection of athletic equipment and apparel in Europe. With over 7 million products in stock, the company set out to modernize the technological aspects of its warehouse and logistics processes.
Consequently, Sportisimo relocated its logistics center from Rudná u Prahy to Ostrava. The initial phase saw the construction of more than 15.3 acres, and this year, the first expansion of the facility is well underway. Specifically, it involves the completion of a pallet rack storage system. Initially designed to accommodate 61,000 pallet slots, intensive efforts are being made to expand the solution’s capacity by almost 10,000 additional pallet spaces.
The warehouse capacity expansion will be primarily used to store pallets of non-standard dimensions with a variable weight of 1,100 to 2,866 lb. The storage system will have a total capacity of 71,000 pallet places, spread across 52 aisles, with racking lengths of 368' to 394'. The strong partnership between Sportisimo and Mecalux has led to the creation of one of the largest warehouses in the Czech Republic.
